Storage Wars Part II: The way storage wages war on your physical, mental, and emotional state of being

Finding oneself can be a challenging task particularly for those of us that do or did not have a stable upbringing or environment.

Back at the storage unit I find myself begrudgingly facing yet another attempt at sifting through proposed valuables in search of…myself. What I find, is the root of procrastination and the internal battle to get the work done in order to rid my life of the burden of holding onto things that do not serve me, my present or, future.

What hurts is that, as I load boxes of heavy books, my grandfather’s heavy tools, my mother’s heavy collection of fabrics, and heavy furniture from a previous south-bound marriage; I realize that everything… everything is fucking heavy. Much like the burdens and baggage we gather or accept, the way storage wages war is with this weight and its’ direct influence on our physical, mental and emotional state of being.

Physically I become tired from simply moving. Mentally, I fight with myself to not only push through and complete the task at hand; but also, to ask myself where is or was my mental health that I thought it was appropriate to gather or accept this much stuff. Then pay to keep it, move it and place myself in this state of mental anguish again and again. The result, an emotional breakdown compounded by bad memories once great. Not just the typical emotional breakdown, however relevant, I am speaking to the actual act of breaking down one’s emotional state of being by repeating unhealthy behaviors that results in the culmination of being physically tired coupled with mental anguish.

The time has come to donate the good we can offer and heal, then; trash the unnecessary trauma baggage of our lives. To separate the wheat from the chaff. To work smarter not harder for our physical, mental, and emotional state of being.

Love,

Topango
